Learned Something New On Twitter

April 16th, 2009 NDM 2 comments

“A perfect number N has the property that if you add up all the smaller numbers that divide N you get N back. 28=1+2+4+7+14 or 6=1+2+3.”

“I tried to persuade Charles Clarke to propose a private members bill in parliament to make 28 of June “the perfect day” to celebrate maths.”

“The next perfect number is 496 so perhaps we should have celebrated the perfect day in 496 AD. What was happening then I wonder?”

“Are perfect numbers useful? Probably not but who said maths had to be useful. Is Bach’s Goldberg Variations useful?”

“If 2^n-1 is a prime then 2^{n-1}(2^n-1) is a perfect number. 7=2^3-1 which gives the perfect number 28=2^{3-1} x 7=4 x 7.”

The NBA is Live on Twitter

March 18th, 2009 NDM No comments

NBA player Charlie Villanueva of the Milwaukee Bucks Twittered during his team’s game against the Boston Celtics on March 15th and got himself in trouble with the coach.

During halftime with the games tied at 41, Charlie Villanueva sent a tweet to fans,

“In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt.  We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half.  Coach wants more toughness.  I gotta step up.”

Coach Scott Skiles had this to say,

“You know, we don’t want to blow it out of proportion but anything that gives the impression that we’re not serious and focused at all times is not the correct way we want to go about our business.”

Charlie Villanueva seems to love his Twitter and willing to fight for his right to Twitter..

Twitter + Blackberry = Twitterberry

March 13th, 2009 NDM No comments

If you own a Blackberry and enjoy reading Twitter updates but don’t want your phone ringing from SMS alerts every time your  friend updates, download Twitterberry.   It is also great if you do not have an unlimited texting plan because it works through the data network. The interface is clean and simple.  It shouldn’t cause any trouble unless you are not familiar with any type of Blackberry apps.

I downloaded the application yesterday after I saw Baron Davis using it for his updates.  I definitely recommend it, especially to those that are subscribed to lots of tweets and/or don’t like receiving updates via SMS.

Go to http://orangatame.com/ota/twitterberry/ on your Blackberry browser.

Enjoy!

Twitter Gaining Mainstream Popularity

March 9th, 2009 NDM No comments

I’ve had a Twitter account for years.  I never used it because I knew absolutely no one on it.  Now, it seems like a lot more people are on it.  Celebrities are using it to reach out to their fans, companies are using it to market their products, and nobodies like me are using to share random thoughts about nothing.  It is basically like texting but instead of texting to just one person, you’re texting to everyone that has access to your account via internet or phone.  There are still only a few of my friends that have accounts and even fewer that actually use it but it is better than no one.

If you’re interested in following my Twitter, go here http://twitter.com/ndmLA.

Here is a short list of celebrities that I follower on Twitter…

Tag Your Friends as Cartoon Characters On Facebook

March 7th, 2009 NDM 12 comments

The latest trend in Facebook is to tag your friends as cartoon characters.

After uploading one of these pictures into your photo album, either you or your friends can tag friends to characters they most resemble.

I have yet to have been tagged.  I guess that just shows how popular I am.

More character sets below…

Life is Short. Have an Affair.

March 4th, 2009 NDM No comments

On my way to work this morning, I heard an ad on the radio for the Ashley Madison Agency.  It is a “dating” site for people already in relationships, more specifically married, looking to have affairs.

I personally believe having an affair outside your relationship is wrong but things happen.  People sometimes develop feelings for another person outside their relationship.  Whether it leads to an affair depends on the person acting on those feelings or not.

I don’t believe in “Once a cheater, always a cheater”.  Some people just make mistakes.  I’m not saying they should be forgiven.  They should face the consequences for their actions but they shouldn’t forever be labeled as cheaters.

Cheaters are people that go to sites like Ashley Madison.  If you’re actively seeking other people outside your relationship, you’re a cheater.

If you’re going go on sites like this, why be in a relationship?  This is not about being in an open relationship.  Some people are in open relationships and I can respect that but this is about having discreet affairs.  I don’t get it. Read more…
