Watchmen

Watchmen is opening nationwide on Friday, March 6th.

After seeing the preview for the movie last year, I bought the book, Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, in hopes of reading it before the movie came out.   It is a comic book.  I used to collect and read comic books growing up.  It shouldn’t take more than a few days to finish it. Easy read, right?

Wrong!

I don’t remember reading comic books was such a challenge.  You have to figure out which dialogue bubble to read first,  see which character it is coming from, read the actual dialogue, and then you have to look at the actual image.   It sounds a lot easier than it is.  I didn’t think it would be all that difficult until I sat down to read it.  It is a lot easier to read text and just imagining it.   Taking in the text along with the image just takes too much out of me.  It just doesn’t come to me naturally.

I really enjoyed reading it though… the first 50 pages.  Sadly, I couldn’t finish it.  It was just too much for my brain to handle.  As I am writing this post, it is sitting right beside me.  I’m tempted to try reading it again but I don’t think I’ll be able to read it before I watch the movie.  Maybe I’ll watch it after I watch the movie.  It might help.

Anyways… the movie looks great.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to watch it this weekend.
